Watch Current!
I’d like to introduce you to this tv channel called Current which is dedicated to broadcasting content based on current events for our generation (people in their 20s).
I’ve been watching a lot of their shows every week, although it’s a channel that not many people get at home (unless you’re a sucker and like to pay for too many cable channels). I don’t get it either, but they put some of their best stuff online on their website or in podcasts that you can subscribe to (like in iTunes). No need to give Comcast your money, and if you don’t live in the United States you can watch too!
Here’s some of their flagship programming:
infoMania
It’s a weekly program that it’s kind of a bizarre combination between The Soup and The Daily Show. They talk about what’s happening in the media every week from magazines, news, social networks, music videos, viral videos, and targetting women. And it’s all very cynical, witty, informative, and amusing.
Vanguard
This is also another weekly show that has very interesting pieces about current events worldwide. This week they talked about how the recession has even been outsourced to China as factories there had to close down because American consumers are not buying as much.
SuperNews
It’s an animated show that’s either a hit or miss. Most of the segments are about social commentary, and the humor is very similar to Comedy Central’s Drawn Together. Some of them I thought were pretty good, like the twitter one. Others are kind of bad.
Viewer Created Content
This is one of their most unique features, because it’s news stories created by independent journalists and filmmakers who make a commision by posting them on the Current website. There’s all kinds of interesting pieces, especially because it’s made from people all over the world.
The Rotten Tomatoes Show
What? rottentomatoes.com has a show? Yeah, it’s produced by current. A really nice thing about it is that some of the fans can submit video reviews, so they composite them together into a nice staff/community-driven review (Example: Star Trek).
Take a look at these. You might find something that you like, like I did. :)
